I hate calculus.
It's hard.
And stressful!

I am just so so happy and in love with my friends right now.
I just thought you all should know.
My heart bursts.

Tonight is my last night of childhood!
Having the magical number of 18 over my head will suddenly morph me into a responsible, self-sufficient, self-secure, caring, successful, involved, intelligent, and sexy adult.
I bet you can't wait to see what I'll look like.

I'm leaving on a jet plane [17 Jan 2008|11:28am]
[ music | New York, New York ]

Whoa! I'm updating my el-jay. I hope no one is going into cardiac arrest.
Basically, lots of stuff has happened. I've talked about it so much that I don't think I'll ever forget all the gory details of the Michael Holley relationship mishap. People are always less mature than they seem, but what can you do?
I had a very nice Christmas and New Years. Winter Break was very chillaxed. I hung out with my peeps and got to spend lots of quality time with Leonore and the OC. I saw Juno! It's such a cute movie.
Oh, earlier in December I went to Festival of Winds in Tampa. It was ridiculous being the only girl there from WP, but thankfully my roomie Natalie was super awesome and we ventured together. I always have such good roommate luck...hopefully that will work out for college, too!
Right now I'm at Jessica's house. We left after our art history exam (which was so ridiculous because a lot of the questions we had just studied the day before out of the AP Practice Exam thing...kudos to Lara!). Now we're just chilling and double checking to make sure we have everything because we're flying to NEW YORK CITY at 3:10 today. We'll be back Monday!
Love!

I forgot to mention how Eric put me in a trashcan Friday. Then he tried again, but Ethan wrestled me from his arms and they got in a "fight."
High school rocks.

Last night it rained at the football game. While it was somewhat discomforting, it was really awesome! We all got our paws up and went crazy...but we lost anyways. I went to Denny's afterwards. I love me some eggs.
Today I helped my mom get settled into her new office. We hung pictures and stuff. I stood barefoot on a desk at Walt Disney World! So scandalous, or scandelous according to a girl in the sophomore acronym football crowd group. I went to the brass band concert with my parents. Yay for being wholesome.

This weekend, I spent saturday night at Rollins and it was so fun and magical! We played Settlers of Catan, watched The Office, Spinal Tap, and Robo Vampire, and played pictionary. Our team killed on pictionary. We didn't go to bed until 3.15 and then we spelt in a really long time.
I can't wait for college!
Grace and her friends are so wonderful.
School's not so bad right now. I'm on the calculus train (for now)!
The lightning was redonkulus at practice tonight. It was mostly heat stuff, but it was really crazy. Mr. Moody leaned down and asked me if we were safe. I assured him we were...thank goodness we didn't get struck. I would have felt really guilty because he would have been the first one to die.
Art history rules.

[ music | Imogen Heap ]

The first week of school is over! Longest week of my life
Okay, something is wrong with my keyboard because the period button won't work, so I'll just have to make each sentence a new line
I press the key and NOTHING HAPPENS!
This week has been ridiculously long; it already feels like we've been in school for weeks
I still can't remember all of my combinations
It was so hot at band practice yesterday, the walkboard thing was reflecting major light on my leg, but it's cool in the scaffolding
All echoey and stuff
I feel more protected and the staff is hilarious
Life seems just a little bit weird right now (I know, me weird? crazy)
I like all of my classes, and I feel pretty solidified in which of my classmates I don't like
Horrible, I know
I'm also getting to know people [read: person] that are really cool
And I have an IB class with someone I had no idea existed! It was crazy, I'd never seen this guy in any IB context ever
I really wish my period key would work
I keep hitting it just to check
Mr (GAHHHHHHH I can't even punctuate that) Moody turned me on to Imogen Heap
She's super cool
I watched too much TV today
I'll make up for it tomorrow
I wish I were a dancer

Yee haw! It's off to the races. Today was just a typical first day of school, definitely didn't feel like the last one! Let's discuss how pointless that homeroom class is: It's really pointless.
But my schedule is pretty good:
1) Calculus with Worcester. 1st period is majorly a bummer, but Jessica and Kip are in that class so it's fun
2) Spanish Lit with Mejia. I definitely think I'm going to get a lot more fluent in Spanish. It's about half and half native and non-native though, so that's kind of nice
3) Contemporary History with Rushing. I love history! And her room is totally historied out. I love all of those posters and the JFK cutout. And she's from Texas. I'm excited.
4) Pysch HL with Ivey. I expect smooth sailing in there. Unfortunately, it's before lunch so I might pass out.
5) Art History with Hayes. It seems chill and I get to learn about art. And history! It's in the art building, so it makes me feel creative.
6) English with Schoene. It's quite a haul from APAH. Also when I finally got there, it was segregated with a boy side and a girl side. Can you say kindegarten? But it's got great people, we just need to shake it up.
7) Wind Ensemble with Moody. It's definitely going to be different.
Overall, this year is shaping up well. I just need to stay on the calculus train.

I finished Harry Potter at about 9.30. It was really, really good. I just can't believe it's over. No more anticipation about what's next!
Sigh.

I'm feeling sad right now. I'm only five chapters into HP7, so I guess it's not entirely due to that drama. I just need a pick me up.
Sorry, this is probably just my womanhood speaking.

Whew! It's nice to be home for longer than a day.
Two weeks ago was M-fuge!!! That requires a long and detailed post. And I promise to do that, but I don't have time right now.
Yesterday, I got back from visiting Swarthmore, Yale, and Brown. They were all pretty awesome, but I particularly pine for Yale. Come on. It's Yale. I will discuss that further later as well.
But now, I must talk Harry Potter.
Remember when I posted about the series finale of Gilmore Girls? Well, you probably don't, but I was basically like I know it's pathetic and it's not real, but it's been a part of my life for seven years and now I'm sad it's over.
I feel like that times infinity. Harry Potter is not officially over, but by Sunday or Monday, it probably will be for me. I wanted to sort of draw it out and get the most of the last book, but I don't want to risk anything getting spoiled.
Harry Potter, though, has only been part of my life for five-ish years. I'll admit, and I'm so horrified I did this, but I just couldn't get into it. Now, I'm a full-fledged Harry Potter dork. I'm not really super hardxcore, but I love the books and the characters and what happens to them like real people! I will be one of those needing counseling when I finish the book. I was literally depressed when Sirius died. I'm not kidding.
And if anybody spoils anything, I will be utterly p.o.-ed. And crushed. And Hulk smashing.

To elaborate on my wholesome fourth of July:
I had to get up really early (7.30 GASP!) to go to the 5th Annual Greater Geneva Grande Award Marching Band! Decked out in my patriotic garb, I treked with my family to Geneva. All sorts of fun people were there: Grace (well, she came with us), the McBrydes, Mr. Moody, Emily, Andrew Rivenbark... We did the little parade, complete with playing Happy Birthday to people who didn't actually have a birthday and turning the wrong way and the guy being very confused. After that was the town celebration, where the town boy scouts presented the colors and we got an airplane fly-over. We played more songs, beautifully, of course.
We got home, ate lunch, and waited for some stormy weather to pass. Then Grace, Leonore, my mom, and I went swimming at the Smiths'. Good ole summer time!
We came back home and got ready for the barbecue! The usual crowd (sans the Wunderlins...may they rest in peace) came over and we had good American food. We piddled around for awhile then walked down to Lake Eola. On the way, we ran into the really drunk renters getting out another keg. While we waited for the fireworks to start, these "drunken patriots" sang bad songs. The fireworks were awesome!
We came home and ate homemade ice cream on the front porch.
God did bless America!

[ music | Once ]

Today, I saw Once, and it was everything I hoped for. It is just a nice, simple movie. Nothing major happens, but I think it paints a fair picture of how life really is. A bunch of moments. The opportune ones missed, awkward situations in others.
The movie just is.
I liked it a lot, and the soundtrack is so wonderful! I'm listening to it now.
So, go see it and support Ireland!

Lately, all of my posts begin with "I'm such a terrible updater!" which is sadly the truth. You already know that, though, so I'll save a few words.
The summer is passing quite nicely. I just finished reading my books for my EE; I enjoyed them both. Now, the tricky part is actually writing something.
Lara, Leonore, Jessica, and facebook have all chronicled the DCI roadtrip quite nicely, so I doubt any of you lack anything you're dying to know. Before that, though, was the "Drum Major Academy." I enjoyed it when I went last year, but I really liked it this year. My roomie, Rose, was really sweet. I'll get to see her when we play University! I was "sqaud leader," and you definitely get a different perspective being in charge and what not. My squad won the little competition two of three days, I was proud of them kids. Rose and I had a little prank war with Alex and her roommate that involved us stealing a hair dryer, and them putting a trashcan on an overturned chair outside of our room. The bathrooms were only slightly nasty...there was a mushroom growing out of the ceiling in one of the showers.
We had our first leadership meeting on Thursday! I think this year is going to turn out really well. Mr. Moody is sooo excited, tres adorable, and I think the band is going to have a really great attitude and what-not. We went bowling afterward. I got two strikes!!! Of course, though, I was beat by asians.
I always complain about not seeing people I know, so last night made up for all the times I've gone out and not seen anybody. Chris, Leonore, and I had dinner at Tijuana Flats where I saw Jenn Warren and I think my ninth grade history teacher. At WP village, I saw Christine's little sister, Megan Thomas, and Mrs. Wilkes. It was overwhelming. I love Mrs. Wilkes! I really liked her class. It was a relief to go to at the end of the day.
I apologize for this post and all of its jabberwocky.

Summer is fun!
I went camping last weekend with Jessica, Chris, and Leonore. We survived! Minus the fiasco at the first campsite that wouldn't let us camp because we weren't 21 that involved 42 purgatory, everything went very smoothly. We had a giant tent and got to go swimming in a spring! Yay. I met Damien, and his two younger brothers Adrian and I didn't catch the other name. Adrian is my hispanic lover. If I have two boys before Leonore does, I will name them Adrian and Julian. They are the best emo names ever. In summary, camping was super fun! Details on Leonore's facebook.
I finished volunteering at Maitland today. It was a nice experience; I got to help horns of the future and I even did some conducting. That was interesting...let's just say Maitland rehearsals are nothing like Winter Park ones.
Now for productive reading time.

I know this sounds so lame, but I just watched the Gilmore Girls series finale thing, and it was so sad to me! I really connected with it. Next year will be such a time of transition and change and excitement and uncertainty, kind of like Rory's going away. It's my "last onset" (I think Thoreau said something poetic and deep like that). But it's my senior year of high school! I really hope that I enjoy it for everything it is, and I won't get bogged down by "this is the last time I'll ever blah blah blah!" I've still got the summer, though!
Speaking of summer...wooo. I'm volunteering at the Maitland summer band program. Middle schoolers are fun. I was, however, impressed by some of the horns I auditioned. I was kind of biased, though. I could never be completely impartial! I don't want annoying kids entering the French horn legacy!
Well, I have really got to get cracking on that summer assignment stuff. I'll tell you, that's one thing I'm definitely not going to miss about high school.
